DOH-Sarasota’s 125 Years of Public Health Celebration

The Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County (DOH-Sarasota) held a ‘Media Availability’ at the William L. Little Health & Human Services Center, 2200 Ringling Boulevard in Sarasota on Thursday, Feb. 20 with its chosen “Public Health Hero” – Mark Magenheim, MD, MPH. Although several media outlets published stories before the event, two media outlets were in attendance, SNN6, the local cable news network station, and the Sarasota Herald Tribune.

Dr. Magenheim has dedicated his career to public health as a leader, educator, and advocate and proponent for evidence-based public health activities that have been shown to make a profound impact on human health and quality of life.

Current DOH-Sarasota Administrator Chuck Henry presented Dr. Magenheim with a trophy/plaque for his contributions to public health in Sarasota County. Subsequently, Dr. Magenheim provided a presentation entitled, ‘Scenes of Public Health in Global Perspective: Then and Now’ based on highlights from his world voyage as a Semester at Sea Public Health Instructor. The audience included invited staff, over a dozen DOH-Sarasota retirees, community partners and others.
